WHEN: Through September 30, 2012

WHERE: Clyfford Still Museum-Golden Triangle, Denver

The second installation of the inaugural exhibition includes additional examples from the Museum’s deep holdings, including discoveries made since the opening of the Museum in November 2011 and an entirely new selection of works on paper. While the organizational principles of the first presentation will remain (such as arrangements aligned with the geographic locations where the works were created), a deeper understanding of Still’s imagery and concerns is revealed through new comparisons and associations, suggesting there much to learn about this extensive body of work. Works from both parts of the inaugural exhibition will be included in a major 250-page book, available in October 2012, titled Clyfford Still: The Artist’s Museum, published by CSM in collaboration with Skira Rizzoli Publications.

WHEN: Through September 16, 2012

WHERE: Denver Art Museum-Golden Triangle, Denver

Garry Winogrand photographed in crowds and on the street from his early days as a New York magazine freelancer in the 1950s to his last years in Los Angeles. When he sensed the composition of a picture falling into place, Winogrand would quickly raise his camera to his eye and take candid photos of anonymous people. He used a 35mm Leica camera that enabled him to photograph quickly and freely. Often he focused on women—in parks, getting into cars, at parties, exiting stores—creating photographs that highlighted the changing role of women and, at times, the uncertainty of their new place. Garry Winogrand: Women are Beautiful presents a selection of nearly 50 photographs from the museum’s permanent collection culled from the hundreds that Garry Winogrand took of women on the street, a selection of which were published in the 1975 book of the same title.

WHEN: Through June 17, 2012

WHERE: Denver Art Museum-Golden Triangle, Denver

Drawn from the personal collection of former U.S. Secretary of State Madeleine Albright, this exhibition features more than 200 pins, many of which Secretary Albright wore to communicate a message or a mood during her diplomatic tenure. Read My Pins: The Madeleine Albright Collection examines the collection for its historical ties as well as the expressive power of jewelry and its ability to communicate through a language of its own. The collection that Secretary Albright cultivated is distinctive and democratic—sometimes demure and understated, sometimes outlandish and outspoken—spanning more than a century of jewelry design and including fascinating pieces from across the globe. The works on view are chosen for their symbolic value, and while some are fine antiques, many are costume jewelry.
